Hellraiser : Revelations
This is the 9th Hellraiser movie and in many peoples opinion, the worst Hellraiser movie. I'm going to tell you why that is after I explain the story a bit.
Two friends go on a road trip to Tijuana, Mexico as they and they don't let you forget it because they perpetually yell TIJUANA!! at the camera. They reach their destination and shit goes down hill from there. Then they find the box and shit proceeds to go even further down hill.
The story then picks up with their families, who are trying to piece together what happened to the two friends even though they kind of know what happened because they have a video tape, but of course who is going to believe that their family members were pulled into Hell by an evil being who seeks human suffering?
Anyway they too open the box and one of the two friends returns to tell his story and furthermore freak out the family and freak out himself.
Now about why this movie is in many peoples opinion, the worst Hellraiser ever. Even worse than the last few movies.
Pinhead is no longer played by Doug Bradley. Instead they brought on a new face to play the iconic role. A man that looks like a chubby Donald Duck dressing up like Pinhead for Halloween. Even his voice isn't right, it sounds similar to Pinheads but still off. He talks more than he should and shows way too much emotion for playing Pinhead. Pinhead always seemed like an emotionless figure, this Pinhead has emotion and shows it.
There is a Pseudo-Pinhead who looks like a bloodier version of regular Pinhead and this Pinhead looks better than the regular Pinhead! Pseudo-Pinhead is the cenobite form of one of the two friends.
This movie also marks the return of one of the Wire Twins. Although she seems to be more like a cross between a Wire Twin and Chatterer, and she is barely shown at all in the movie. She is kind of a background character.
The story jumps around and may be difficult for some people to follow. The acting is alright, not too bad, could have been better though and the script doesn't feel right for a Hellraiser movie, it's hard to explain. I think it's mainly because the script borrows lines from other movies and that Pinhead shows too much emotion and says things that feel like things he would say.
The gore in this movie is where the movie shines. The gore is pretty good and reminds me of several scenes from the first few Hellraiser movies, where-as the story is on par with the last few Hellraiser movies. So in my opinion the gore is better than the last few Hellraiser movies and the story feels similar to the last few, but still falls short of even them!'
Don't let me forget that the ending to this movie completely friggen' sucks, it has no closure at all and it just flat out sucks in my opinion.
All in all this movie is OK at best and it was just released to maintain the rights to the Hellraiser series. The characters were INSPIRED by characters from the mind of Clive Barker, because as Clive himself said. "This did not come from my mind, this wouldn't even come from my Butt hole."
Score : 3/10
